Hambrick receives Easterday Award

Every Fall the Metropolis Rotary Club awards the annual Les Easterday Community Service Award at the Metropolis.

Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.The award is given each year to a Massac County resident who has enriched the community through public service, and recognizes that person’s contributions to the community and volunteerism.

The award is named in honor of the late Leslie Easterday, who was active in Rotary and many other civic Avenues, including the chamber of commerce.Easterday joined Rotary in 1927, and five decades later received an award for 50 years of perfect attendance.

The 2017 award was presented to Jim Hambrick, owner of the Super Museum and Americana Hollywood (Museum) in Metropolis.Hambrick has provided service to the community on a more national level than past recipients.As stated in his nomination letter to the club from his son-in-law Adam Siebert, Hambrick has been a promoter and marketer of the Home of Superman since moving to the town 25 years ago.

“When it comes to dedication and commitment it would be hard to find someone else in the community that has done as much for Metropolis with having done 2000 radio interviews, 150 talk shows and news programs, USA Today cover story multiple times, St Louis Post Dispatch story multiple times and over 200 front pages of major newspapers around the world,” said Siebert in the letter.

Hambrick served twice as the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce president which is an organization Easterday was heavily involved in.He was also a founding member of the Metropolis Tourism Commission before it changed to the Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Rotary Club Past President Caroline Jones presented the award to Hambrik on Oct. 26 at the annual Chamber meeting.Hambrick’s Name will be added to the Les Easterday monument on the Massac County courthouse lawn next to the Superman statue, and the Rotary Club will donate $250 to the art program at Metropolis Elementary School as requested by Hambrick.

Hambrick’s daughter, Morgan, is a graphic designer and feels the importance of art in the classroom.

“His museum and websites spell success for Metropolis.His accomplishments are truly amazing, and I Can’t think of a better choice to receive the Les Easterday Award,’ said Siebert.
